Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is foiling?

Hydro-foiling, or foiling for short, is what allows the board to lift completely out of the water. The component that accomplishes this is called the “foil”. Once the board is going fast enough, it produces enough lift to pick everything up out of the water. It is the same principle as an airplane having to get enough speed to take off. The purpose of this is it reduces hydrodynamic drag on the board, allowing us to go faster in less wind.

  • What is the IQFoil?

The IQ Foil is the equipment selected for windsurfing in the Paris, and Los Angeles Olympic Games. The predecessor to the IQFoil was the RS:X, which was sailed from the 2008 to the 2020 Olympics. What sets the IQFoil aside from the RS:X is how it is a hydro-foiling class. Many other Olympic Sailboats are transitioning to hydrofoils such as the Nacra 17 Catamaran.

  • Are there other types of sailing in the Olympics?

In total, there are 10 different classes of Olympic Sailing. These include:

    Men’s: Mixed: Women’s:

    IQFoil Nacra 17 IQFoil

    49er 470 49er

    Laser Laser

    Kiteboarding Kiteboarding

  • How does a regatta work?

At a regatta, the sailors will compete on different race courses depending on the wind velocity, with all the other sailors. It is scored with a low point scoring system. If you get first in a race, you get 1 point, second gets 2, and so on, and we are ranked based on who has less points. The top 10 at the end of the event go into a medal race series to decide the order within the top 10.

  • What are my goals for the Olympics?

Plain and simple: Win a medal.

As long as I am in the top 10 going into the final day, its possible and likely to bring home some hardware.

  • What is the best way to help the campaign?

The best way to help get me to the Paris Olympic Games is by donating to help send me to the regattas, and training days to become one of the best. Donations can be accepted either through check, or through the support button on the navigation bar above.
