IQFoil World Championship

My participation in the Worlds marked my first senior World Championship in any class of Olympic sailing. I am proud of the work I have accomplished this year leading into the event, and am excited to continue working hard following my graduation from the University of South Florida.

The regatta was a tough one for me both performance wise, and mentally. With only one day of qualifying to get into gold fleet (top 33%) you had to perform extremely well in the 4 races that day to make the cut. Due to some mistakes made in the races, I did not make the cut to gold fleet and sailed the remainder of the event in silver fleet. This was a hard pill to swallow. I knew leading into the regatta that I would not sail at my best due to most of my time going towards school, but it was still crushing to not make gold fleet.

Waking up on day 2, I decided I wasn’t going to succumb to the mental despair, and would do everything in my power to perform well, and learn as much as possible for the rest of the event. I began day 2 in 110th place, and climbed all the way to 72nd which I was extremely pleased with. Due to a few more mistakes, I ended up dropping and finished the event in 81st.

With this result, I am thrilled to say I have been the top American sailor at every event I have done this year, putting me on a good path for the Pan-American and Olympic spot.

I graduate on December 10th with my degree in Microbiology with a minor in infection control, and from there on my life will be 100% dedicated to being the best sailor I can be. Words can’t begin to describe my excitement.

Thank you to everybody who has helped me get to this point. Your support is the only thing that allows me to do this.

All the best

Noah
